A Sweet Stop in Rockland: Discovering Bixby Chocolate
As a lifelong chocolate lover, I was thrilled to discover one of the Midcoast’s sweetest local treasures — Bixby Chocolate in Rockland. Located just about 20 minutes from the East Wind Inn and only steps from downtown Rockland, Bixby is the perfect place to pick up small-batch, high-quality chocolates for gifts, souvenirs, or your own sweet tooth.
Their shelves are filled with beautifully packaged treats, including specialty chocolates with nuts, peanut butter combinations, sea salt, and other creative flavors that make wonderful gifts to bring home from Maine. Whether you’re shopping for friends, family, or yourself, there’s something for every chocolate lover.

One of my personal favorites is their rich drinking chocolate, especially on a chilly Maine afternoon. I’m also a huge fan of their chocolate and peanut butter creations — the perfect balance of salty and sweet — and have driven to Bixby’s more than once just to satisfy a chocolate craving.
Bixby makes for a fun stop whether you’re spending the day strolling downtown shops, grabbing lunch near the pier, or exploring the local art scene. Their shop has a welcoming atmosphere, and what makes the experience even more unique is that you can actually watch the chocolatiers at work.

Inside the gift shop, visitors can peek through large windows into the small production factory and see the chocolate-making process happening in real time. Watching the chocolatiers craft their treats by hand adds an extra layer of appreciation for the care and creativity behind every bite.
If you’re visiting the Midcoast and looking for a delicious local experience, Bixby Chocolate is absolutely worth adding to your itinerary. Just be warned — you may leave with far more chocolate than you planned.
